Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons

Visiting Research Professor

MICHAEL FITZSIMMONS is currently a visiting research professor at the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI), U.S. Army War College (USAWC), Carlisle, PA. He is on leave from the Strategy, Forces, and Resources Division at the Institute for Defense Analyses, Alexandria, VA, where he conducts studies on defense strategy and force planning for the Department of Defense (DoD). Dr. Fitzsimmons has served as an advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and on operational and strategic headquarters staffs in Iraq. He has also been an adjunct professor of public policy from the University of Maryland and previously worked as a management consultant at Bain & Company in the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Dr. Fitzsimmons holds advanced degrees in international affairs and business administration from Columbia University, New York, and a Ph.D. in international security policy at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD.
