Colonel Matthew W. Lawrence

Senior Army Reserve Advisor of SSI

Colonel Matthew W. Lawrence is the senior Army Reserve advisor to the Strategic Studies Institute (SSI) at the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He is a career public affairs officer and spearheads SSI’s communications outreach to its client organizations. He is heavily involved in communications education and training at the War College and assists departments in planning and conducting their executive communications training exercises. He also teaches courses in manning and marketing the military and online communications for senior leaders.

In previous assignments, Colonel Lawrence served as the chief of advertising and marketing for the Army Reserve at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and the Army Reserve chief of media relations at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, representing over 200,000 soldiers and civilians nationwide. He started his public affairs career in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the 11,500 soldiers of the 807th Medical Command. Prior to pursuing his military career in communications, Colonel Lawrence was an active duty and reserve logistics officer in Columbus, Ohio; Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; Camp Walker, Korea; Fort Hood, Texas; and Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Colonel Lawrence holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, a Master of Business Administration degree from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the US Army War College.
